The Fracture[]

The Fracture

An enigmatic area of space disconnected from the rest of the galaxy, The Fracture is chock full of rewards and resources for you and your opponents to explore.

Before The Fracture is in play, whenever a player gains their Breakthrough, regardless of source, they roll a die. If the result is a 1 or a 10, The Fracture enters play. The Fracture has its own set of system tiles, and they can only be accessed through “ingress tokens,” which are placed at certain spots throughout the galaxy when The Fracture enters play. Each planet within The Fracture gives you a relic when you gain control of it, and the new legendary planet Styx also gives you a victory point for as long as you control it. However, you won’t be able to just waltz in and take these planets for yourself—after all, this alternate space is already occupied by neutral forces!

The Fracture is made up of 7 systems spread out over 3 tiles.

Entering Play[]

Tiles and Neutral Units[]

When The Fracture comes into play, the triggering player:

  • Places it along any edge of the game board, based on player count, as shown in “The Fracture” diagram of the rulebook.
  • Places neutral units as indicated on the back of The Fracture’s tiles.

Ingress Tokens[]

Depending on how The Fracture is brought into play, the triggering player adds Ingress Tokens to the game board in one of two ways.

Scenario 1[]

If The Fracture was brought into play by gaining a breakthrough, the triggering player:

  • Selects three different systems containing technology specialties that match the first synergy color on their breakthrough (if able) and places ingress tokens in those systems.
  • Selects three additional and different systems, containing technology specialties that match the second synergy color on their breakthrough (if able) and places ingress tokens in those systems.

Note: this can result in the placement of up to 6 ingress tokens. No more than one ingress token can be placed in a system.

Scenario 2[]

If The Fracture was brought into play by another ability, or by a breakthrough that does not have synergy (Nekro Virus), the triggering player:

  • Selects four different systems, each containing a planet with a different technology specialty (if able) and places an ingress token in those systems.

Note: this can result in the placement of up to 4 ingress tokens. No more than one ingress token can be placed in a system.

Final Ingress Token[]

After placing Ingress Tokens as outlined in Scenario 1 or 2, the triggering player places an ingress token either:

  • In the Thunder's edge system (if it is in play)
  • In the Mecatol Rex system (if Thunder's Edge is not in play)

Ways the Fracture Can Enter Play[]

Component Triggering Effect Component Text Ingress Scenario
Unlocking Breakthrough The Crimson Rebellion player rolls a 1 or a 10 when unlocking their breakthrough during setup When a player gains their breakthrough, regardless of the source, if The Fracture is not already in play, they roll one die. If their die roll is equal to 1 or 10, they put The Fracture into play. Scenario 1
A player rolls a 1 or a 10 when unlocking their breakthrough during play When a player gains their breakthrough, regardless of the source, if The Fracture is not already in play, they roll one die. If their die roll is equal to 1 or 10, they put The Fracture into play. Scenario 1
Breakthrough Effect The Vuil'Raith Cabal player unlocks their breakthrough This breakthrough causes The Fracture to enter play without a roll, if it is not already in play. After this card enters play, move up to 2 ingress tokens into systems that contain gravity rifts.

Apply +1 to the Move value of each of your ships that start their movement in The Fracture.

Scenario 1 and then the Cabal player will move the 2 tokens.
Action Card The Unravel Acton Card ACTION: Choose and purge a relic. If that relic belonged to another player, that player gains a victory point. If that relic belonged to you, put The Fracture into play and place an additional ingress token in a system that contains your units. Scenario 2
Galactic Event The Rapid Mobilization Galactic Event is in play After setup, put the Fracture into play. Then, each player simultaneously resolves the following effects in order.
  1. Place 1 infantry onto each planet adjacent to your home system (or the Creuss Gate/The Sorrow, if playing those factions); gain control of and ready those planets but do not explore them.
  2. Place 1 space dock on any planet you control and place your flagship and 3 fighters in its system.
  3. Gain your breakthrough.
  4. Research 1 technology; if you are the Nomad player, research 1 additional technology.
Until clarification is received, the players will need to handle this themselves.
Technology The Firmament/Obsidian player researches The Plane Splitter When you gain this card, put The Fracture into play. Flip this card if the Obsidian faction is in play. Scenario 2

Ingress, Egress, and Adjacency[]

The Fracture's systems are not adjacent to the non-fracture systems they are touching.

Access to The Fracture is possible through ingress tokens. A system that contains an ingress is adjacent to each system in The Fracture that contains an egress. However, ingress systems are not adjacent to other ingress systems, and egress systems are not adjacent to other egress systems.

Additional Rules[]

  • Thunder's Edge Planet cannot be placed in the Fracture
  • Each of The Fracture's systems are considered to be on the edge of the game board.
  • The Ghosts of Creuss hero cannot swap the systems that make up The Fracture with other systems.
