Discordant Stars is an unofficial community-made expansion of Twilight Imperium Fourth Edition, created to be compliant with the Asmodee guidelines on community usage of TI4 Intellectual property.
The project began on August 1, 2020, and was formally announced online on Reddit in September of 2021. Discordant Stars initially contained 24 playable factions but now includes an additional 10 factions that were finalized in August of 2023. All 34 Discordant Stars factions have been extensively tested with each other and the 25 official factions.
Those interested in buying a professionally printed copy of the Discordant Stars unofficial expansion can do so here. Please be aware that this order page is expected to only remain open until the end of September 2024.
An additional set of bonus content will be included in a 'Discordant Stars+' package currently in the final stages of testing. This bonus content will also be included here, and will be intermittently updated as updates occur, until it is finalized.
The expansion's most current information is always available on the project's Google Drive, and as such, some images or information on this Wiki may be out of date. When in doubt, the Google Reference Doc supersedes this Wiki.
Discordant Stars Background[]
Discordant Stars began as a group project led by Discord user "Tactic Blue" to coordinate the efforts of various members of the community in development of a cohesive, balanced, and diverse faction pack. Factions were organized around restoring the symmetry of faction starting technology assignments prior to the release of Prophecy of Kings, by using unused starting tech combinations extrapolated from those in the official expansion. Development was an extensive process involving multiple members of the community across many rounds of internal review, testing, and revision.
The project sought to create a collection of factions that mix well with the original set, significantly expanding the faction roster as a whole. They are most likely to be enjoyed by players who have a strong sense of the mechanical and technical nature of the rules and are looking to explore new game experiences. Many factions will significantly alter the game play experience, enabling the development of new strategies for old and new factions alike.
Discordant Stars Factions[]
The Discordant Stars expansion introduces a total of 34 new factions. These fan-made factions represent a mix of old and new powers who, in the wake of the galactic turmoil caused by the events of Prophecy of Kings, have decided to make a play for the Imperial Throne. The Discordant Stars expansion includes factions across a wide variety of themes, from galactic rebellion, to sovereign mega-corporations, to technologically-driven societies.

Rules Clarifications[]
Discordant Stars has an additional Rules Clarification Document, which explains some of the set's more niche rules interactions and nuances. Overall however, the set is designed to be fully rules-system compliant, with rules questions being resolvable based on the text of components in question and Fantasy Flight's Official Living Rules Reference.
Updates to Existing Components[]
Discordant Stars includes no updates to existing components, and is designed specifically to be purely additive to official content.
